This is a professional-grade notched trowel, specifically designed to ensure the correct amount and even distribution of adhesive, thin-set mortar, or plaster for secure bonding in construction and tiling applications. The coarse notching is ideal for demanding projects, particularly those involving larger or heavier materials.
Based on the images, two different models are shown, offering slightly different notch patterns for varied applications:
Durable Blade Material: The blade is typically constructed from high-quality stainless steel or durable metal for corrosion resistance, easy cleaning, and long service life.
Purpose-Built Notches: The notches control the volume of adhesive applied to the surface, ensuring a uniform layer, better adhesion, and minimizing air pockets (voids).
Ergonomic Handle: Features a comfortable, secure wooden handle attached via a sturdy metal shank, designed to reduce fatigue during extended use.
Coarse Notching: The deep, coarse teeth are suitable for applying thicker beds of material, often required for large format tiles (e.g., 16 inches and larger, or 12x24 inch planks).
The images show two distinct, coarse notch shapes, each optimized for different material spread and tile types:
Rectangular/Square Notches (SHARK 1012):
Creates parallel adhesive lines with flat tops and flat spaces between them.
Application: Most commonly used for floor tiling and thick-bed applications. Square notches tend to dispense more mortar than U-notches.
U-Shaped/Scalloped Notches (SHARK 1028):
Creates half-round ridges on the substrate.
Application: Ideal for large format wall and floor tiles with recessed or keyed back patterns. U-notches allow the adhesive to spread outward more easily when the tile is pressed, potentially reducing the chance of trapping air and often making it easier to embed the tile.
