General Description & PurposeA fire blanket is a safety device designed to extinguish small, incipient (starting) fires by smothering them—cutting off the oxygen supply.
1Function: Primarily used for small fires, especially those caused by cooking oil (Class F) or clothing fires.
2 The larger sizes (6'x6') are also suitable for industrial applications or wrapping around a person to escape a fire or extinguish flames on clothing.
Mechanism: It is placed directly over the flames, covering the entire burning area, to instantly deprive the fire of oxygen, causing it to go out.
3Container: Typically stored in a soft pouch or a hard plastic container (often red or white) for easy wall mounting and quick deployment. The blanket is retrieved by pulling the attached quick-release tabs/tapes.
4Usage: Generally considered a single-use emergency product.
