PVC packing clips, also known as strapping clips or seals, in the 5/8" size are specialized fasteners designed to be used specifically with PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) or other similar plastic strapping materials, such as Polypropylene (PP).

They serve the same function as metal clips—to securely join the overlapping ends of the strapping under tension—but are tailored for the characteristics of plastic straps.

Purpose and Application
The primary purpose of a 5/8" PVC clip is to create a secure, reliable, and consistent seal on a 5/8" plastic strap (usually polypropylene or PVC strap) to bundle, unitize, or palletize items for storage and transport.

Key Differences from Metal Clips
Strapping Compatibility: They are not designed for use with steel strapping. Using a metal clip designed for steel on plastic strap (especially for heavy loads) can lead to an unsafe, weak joint because the crimp pattern and material strength are mismatched.

Material: While called "PVC clips," the actual clip itself is often made of metal (typically galvanized steel) but is intended for use with PVC or PP plastic strapping. The term "PVC clip" often simply refers to a metal clip suitable for plastic strap. However, plastic buckles made entirely of plastic are also used, often for lighter duty applications.

Load Rating: Clips used for plastic strapping (PP or PET) are best suited for light to medium-duty applications such as:

Securing boxes and cartons.

Bundling newspapers, paper, or light lumber.

Unitizing lightweight pallets.

They are generally not recommended for extremely heavy, compressed, or shifting loads (like heavy steel or machinery), where steel strapping and steel clips are necessary.

Application Tool: A manual or power-driven tensioner and a separate sealer/crimper tool are used to tighten the strap and then crimp the clip to create the joint. The crimp holds the clip tightly to the smooth plastic strap, preventing slippage.
