This type of tape is a self-adhesive mesh made from fiberglass.
Type: Fiberglass Mesh Tape
Application: Self-adhesive (often), used for jointing drywall/plasterboard.
Purpose: To reinforce seams, joints, cracks, and holes to prevent cracking in the finished surface.
Key Features:
High Strength: The fiberglass mesh provides strong reinforcement.
Self-Adhesive: Makes it easy and quick to apply without needing a layer of joint compound underneath (unlike paper tape).
Alkali-Resistant: Offers good durability and stable chemical properties.
The number represents the width of the tape in inches (and their approximate metric equivalents):
| Size (Inches) | Approximate Width (Metric) | Common Use |
| 2" | 50 mm | Standard Drywall Joints: Primarily used for covering the tapered seams between standard drywall panels. It's the most common width for standard jointing. |
| 4" | 100 mm | Wider Joints & Repairs: Excellent for "butt joints" (where two non-tapered edges meet), patching larger cracks or holes, and general repairs that require extra coverage. |
| 6" | 150 mm | Major Repairs & Sealing: Ideal for substantial wall or ceiling repairs, very wide joints, or reinforcing around window/door frames where a lot of surface coverage is needed. |
