The UMS Metal Clad Switch (Modular Series) is a heavy-duty wiring solution designed for industrial, commercial, and workshop environments where durability and impact resistance are essential.
The "1G, 2G, 3G, 4G x 1W" notation refers to the number of Gangs (switches) on a single plate, all operating as 1-Way switches.
| Feature | Details |
| Material | Heavy-gauge galvanized steel / Alloy |
| Configuration | 1 Gang, 2 Gang, 3 Gang, or 4 Gang |
| Switch Type | 1-Way (Single control point) |
| Current Rating | Usually 10AX or 16AX (Standard lighting/fan loads) |
| Mounting | Surface mounted with supplied metal backbox |
| Inlet/Outlet | 20mm knockouts for conduit entry |
Unlike traditional one-piece metal switches, the Modular design allows for:
Easier Maintenance: You can replace a single switch module if it fails without replacing the entire metal faceplate.
Customization: You can often mix and match modules (e.g., swapping a 1-way switch for a 2-way or a bell press) within the same metal frame.
Durability: The powder-coated finish provides protection against rust and scratches in harsh environments like garages or factories.
1G (1 Gang): Controls one circuit (e.g., one set of lights).
2G (2 Gang): Controls two separate circuits from one plate.
3G (3 Gang): Controls three separate circuits.
4G (4 Gang): Controls four separate circuits (common in large rooms or workshops).
Because these are metal-clad, proper earthing is mandatory. The metal casing must be connected to the earth wire to prevent the housing from becoming live in the event of a fault.
Safety Warning: Always ensure the main power supply is turned off before attempting installation. If you are not a qualified electrician, please consult one to ensure compliance with local wiring regulations.
