The SKC Round Die Handle (also known as a Round Die Stock) is the companion tool to round threading dies. While the SKC 823 you mentioned earlier is for taps (internal threads), the S-824 / S-1952 series is specifically for dies (external threads).
The model numbers you see (like S-1952) refer to the Outside Diameter (O.D.) of the round die the handle can hold. Since round dies come in standard diameters, you must match the handle to the die size.
| SKC Model No. | Fits Die O.D. (Inch) | Fits Die O.D. (Metric) | Overall Length |
| S-1951 | 13/16" | 20 mm | 190 mm |
| S-1952 | 1" | 25 mm | 185 mm |
| S-1954 | 1-5/16" | 33 mm | 305 mm |
| S-1955 | 1-1/2" | 38 mm | 305 mm |
| S-1958 | 2" | 50 mm | 390 mm |
Note: The 824 designation is often used in Malaysia as a general series category for these "Made in Japan" cast-iron body handles.
If you are using this handle for your plumbing work, it is usually for one of two reasons:
Cleaning External Threads: If the threads on a 1/2" pipe are damaged, you would place a 1/2" BSP Round Die into an S-1955 (1-1/2" O.D.) handle to re-cut or clean them.
Creating New Threads: If you have cut a new section of pipe and need to thread the end.
Three-Screw Locking: Most SKC handles feature three set-screws. The center screw aligns with the "split" in an adjustable die to expand it, while the two side screws lock the die firmly in place.
Cast Iron Body: Provides the weight and rigidity needed to keep the die perfectly perpendicular to the pipe, ensuring straight threads.
