The SKC 823 Adjustable Tap & Reamer Wrench is a professional-grade tool made in Japan, specifically designed for holding hand taps and reamers.
The SKC 823 is not a single tool, but a series where you choose the "No." based on the size of the tap or extractor you are using. Since you are working with 1/2" pipes and 5-8pc extractor sets, you need to ensure you have the correct size:
| SKC Model No. | Hand Tap Capacity | Pipe Tap Capacity | Approx. Length |
| No. 4 | 1/16" – 1/2" (M3 – M12) | 1/16" | 230mm (9") |
| No. 5 | 3/16" – 1/2" (M4 – M12) | 1/8" | 280mm (11") |
| No. 6 | 1/4" – 3/4" (M6 – M20) | 3/8" & 1/2" | 380mm (15") |
| No. 7 | 3/8" – 1" (M10 – M26) | 3/8" – 5/8" | 483mm (19") |
For the 1/2" Pipe Extractor: You should use the SKC No. 6 or No. 7. Extracting a pipe requires significant torque, and the longer handles on these models provide the leverage needed to break the rust seal without straining your hands.
For the 5pc/6pc Screw Extractor Set: The SKC No. 4 or No. 5 is usually sufficient for standard bolts (M3 to M12).
All-Steel Construction: Unlike cheaper zinc-diecast versions, the 823 series is built for heavy-duty industrial use and won't snap under high pressure.
Knurled Grips: Provides a non-slip surface, even if your hands are covered in penetrating oil.
Adjustable Jaws: The hardened steel jaws are designed to grip the square shank of the extractor perfectly, preventing the "rounding off" that happens when using a standard crescent wrench.
